Junior Section

The junior section has 44 children. They are divided into Care Group, Pre-primary, Primary and Secondary groups. Their disabilities are identified and corrective methods like physiotherapy, speech therapy etc., are given according to each child’s need. Their academic needs are also taken care of.

  • Functional academics-reading, writing and simple arithmetic’s
  • Computer training in data entry
  • Vocational training- craft work, candle and envelop making, tailoring, embroidery, gardening etc.
  • Cultural activities, sports and games, fine arts
  • Providing physiotherapy, speech therapy yoga
  • Conducting regular PTA and focus group meetings
  • Awareness creation for parents

Senior Section Vocational Training Centre

Snehabhavan Vocational training centre for the mentally challenged was started at Ayamanam in the year of 2010 as an extension centre of the Snehabhavan.

The Objectives of the centre are to train the mentally challenged youngsters in various vocational activities and help them to be functional citizens by earning income for their livelihood.

Here the students are mainly trained in hand embroidery, tailoring, candle making, muffler making, craft items making etc. Some of them are given training to cultivate vegetables, to plant fruit trees etc.

Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) For Persons with Disabilities

Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programme is an approach to rehabilitate the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in and through community itself. The Snehabhavan CBR programmes were started in 2000. It is spread over 4 Gramapanchayats of Kottayam District and a few areas in Kottayam Municipality.

The main activities under the CBR programmes are awareness generation among general public, social and medical rehabilitation of physically and mentally challenged, advocacy and networking with NGOs and local government institutions.
